Our Fathers Day breakfast ideas, if you’re planning on making dad breakfast this Father’s Day on Sunday, include everything from breakfast burritos with scrambled eggs, shredded chicken, melted cheese, charred corn, and pico de gallo to breakfast tostadas with fried eggs for crispy Mexican tostadas topped with gently-spiced refried beans, fried eggs, pickles, tomato salsa, and crumbly cheese.
Father’s Day is this Sunday for dads in Australia, New Zealand, and some Pacific countries. So I thought I’d share some Fathers Day breakfast ideas. If my dad was still alive, I’d be spending all day cooking delicious food for him and the family, because nothing says I love you more than home-cooked meals.
Few experiences leave a lovelier imprint on our memories than shared family meals. So why not make dad Fathers Day breakfast instead of buying him something he doesn’t really need? Or cook dad a Fathers Day dinner, Fathers Day lunch, or even throw a boozy Fathers Day brunch?
I’ve got a tight choice of Father Day recipe ideas for you, whether you want to cook dad breakfast in bed, have a proper sit-down breakfast, or make a breakfast that the family can share, but if you don’t find any inspiration here, we have hundreds more recipes in our Weekend Eggs archive or Grantourismo recipe archive.
Now let me tell you about our Father’s Day breakfast ideas.
Fathers Day Breakfast Ideas from Breakfast Burritos to a Breakfast Skillet
Our Fathers Day breakfast ideas for dads celebrating Father’s Day on Sunday include everything from a casual Mexican fiesta to creative homemade pies.
Breakfast Burrito Recipe with Scrambled Eggs, Shredded Chicken, Cheese and Pico de Gallo
Topping our list of Fathers Day breakfast ideas is our best breakfast burrito recipe, which makes a burrito with scrambled eggs, shredded chicken, melted cheese, charred corn, and pico de gallo.
While that might seem like a loaded breakfast burrito, it’s actually a light healthy breakfast burrito compared to most takeout breakfast burritos, which is why you need to make these burritos for breakfast for dad this Sunday.
This is a simple recipe, as long as you know how to scramble eggs, however, one of the hardest things to get right with this recipe is cooking the chicken. Chicken breasts are easily overcooked, so it’s best to use a meat thermometer to check on the chicken as it slowly cooks.
While you can use a store-bought salsa, or even our own version of homemade salsa for your burritos, we prefer pico de gallo because it’s fresher tasting and we like to serve with hot sauces, such as Tapatio and Cholula, which are a couple of our favourites.
If you’re serving these for brunch rather than breakfast, make some of these classic margaritas or micheladas.

Breakfast Tostadas Recipe with Fried Eggs, Refried Beans and Pickles
This quick and easy breakfast tostadas recipe with fried eggs makes crispy Mexican tostadas topped with gently-spiced refried beans, fried eggs and homemade pickles, along with dollops of tomato salsa, sliced green chillies or jalapeños, crumbly Mexican cotija, and sprigs of fresh coriander or cilantro.
It’s another of our best Fathers Day breakfast ideas and it’s nothing if not versatile. You could add avocado, grated cheese, sour cream, whatever you like. And if you’re like me and prefer your fried eggs to be perfectly round and yolks soft and runny yet whites cooked, I highly recommending using this adorable little non-stick egg frying pan.
Each egg only takes a couple of minutes to cook and if you slow-fry the eggs on low heat they’ll cook evenly so that the whites will be firm but the egg yolks still runny. If you don’t have one of those cute little pans, or you’re feeding the family, then use your favourite cast iron skillet or non-stick French skillet. If you like fried eggs formed into perfect circles use egg rings.
Garnish with whatever you like: pickles, salsa, chillies or jalapeños, Mexican cotija, and sprigs of fresh coriander. If you like the idea of making an extra effort to make your own condiments see our recipes for homemade tomato salsa, quick-pickled pink shallots or onions, Mexican escabeche and jalapeno pickles.
If dad loves fried eggs but not tostadas, then take a look at these dishes that are better with a fried egg on top, from rice porridges or congees and steamed rice and stir-fries to fried rice and fried noodles, and chilaquiles, nachos, tacos and tostadas, to banh mi and potatoes.

Eggs Potatoes and Chorizo Breakfast Skillet Recipe for a Twist on a Classic American Breakfast
This eggs potatoes and chorizo breakfast skillet recipe makes our favourite take on an American breakfast classic, the country skillet breakfast – also known as the cowboy skillet breakfast or farmer’s skillet breakfast – which is cooked in a cast iron skillet, and it’s another of our best Fathers Day breakfast ideas.
Although there’s an infinite array of variations on the traditional breakfast skillet recipe – additions include anything from bell peppers to kidney beans – the essential ingredients of the classic skillet breakfast are eggs, potatoes, onions, cheese, and bacon or ham.
We prefer to make this hearty American breakfast with spicy chorizo sausage instead of bacon and ham, and specifically the Mexican-style soft chorizo sausage rather than the harder Spanish-style chorizo.
A tip from Terence: if you’re feeding the family, you’ll need a 25cm (10″) cast iron skillet. A cast iron skillet heats evenly and is also oven safe, which is important, as we need to melt the cheese under a grill.
Not inspired by this but dad loves chorizo? Check out our traditional Spanish potato omelette recipe with chorizo, this Basque-style ‘messy eggs’ recipe for fried eggs with chorizo and potatoes, and our breakfast taco recipe with fried eggs, chorizo and crunchy potatoes.

Scrambled Eggs with Sautéed Mushrooms on Sourdough Toast Recipe
This scrambled eggs with sautéed mushrooms on sourdough toast recipe is another of my best Fathers Day breakfast ideas. Smoky sautéed mushrooms atop perfectly moist scrambled eggs and crusty sourdough bread make for a very satisfying combination.
Whether you use shiitake, classic brown mushrooms, cremini, or portobello mushrooms, which are really just older cremini, sauteed mushrooms on perfectly cooked scrambled eggs with crusty sourdough bread must be one of the best eggs combinations.
Having said that, I’m sure some of you must be wondering what’s so special about mushroom scrambled eggs and toast. It’s the flavour of amazing fresh mushrooms, just kissed with a little garlic and shallot flavour, and salt.
The scrambled eggs are gently cooked and still moist, sprinkled with just a touch of chives, while the toasted sourdough bread not only has a fabulous aroma, but it stays crispy and firm to the last bite. It’s all about flavour, fragrance and texture.

Full English Breakfast Recipe for a One-Pan British Fry-Up to Share
Our full English breakfast recipe makes a one-pan British fry-up for sharing, and it’s another of my best Fathers Day breakfast ideas for you to make him. The traditional English breakfast consists of a plate of fried eggs, baked beans, fried bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausages, and black pudding. Our take on the classic English fry-up is finished in a Dutch oven shakshuka-style.
A few tips to making our take on the full English breakfast recipe beginning with one of the key ingredients, baked beans. We recommend that you use Heinz baked beans for an authentic taste. Most home-cooks wouldn’t touch their baked beans, however, we like to add a very non-traditional addition of chilli powder to add a little warmth and flavour.
Baked beans are really the basis of a classic British fry-up and they’re literally the foundation of our take on the full English breakfast, as the beans go in the Dutch oven first, and then the other ingredients go on top.
If you don’t have a Dutch oven, this is a good excuse to invest in one. While the much-coveted enamel-coated Le Creuset Dutch oven has been partly responsible for the Dutch oven craze of recent years – and is well worth the investment; they’ll last forever – you don’t need to spend a small fortune. The more affordable Lodge Dutch oven is a solid choice.
