Saigon Essentials

WHEN TO GO

Dec-Apr December can be cool, but it’s dry and with low humidity for this season.
Mar-May Can be hot and humid but little rain at this time.
Jun-Nov Frequents showers but still plenty of sunshine in-between.

HEALTH

If you’re sticking to Saigon, health issues and quality of medical attention is fine. A bout of stomach illness is not uncommon (take Imodium or similar), but overall traffic accidents are your main worry. Do take these recommended vaccinations

VISAS

Nationals of United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and some others can get a 15 day visa on arrival. Other nationalities need a visa in advance but you can do this online at Vietnam Visa on Arrival through our visa partner, the most respected Vietnam Visa agent.

TRANSPORTATION

AIR/LAND/SEA

Saigon’s international airport is Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN), 6 km north of the centre. Taxi fares to District 1 should be around 150,000 – 170,000 VND (US$6-8) plus the extra 10,000 VND (US$0.50) airport surcharge. If they want to negotiate and not use the meter, start negotiations at 150,000 VND. These taxi drivers are notorious for overcharging, telling you your hotel is closed, and just dropping you off randomly in District 1. Getting around only use Mai Linh taxis, both now have booking apps.
