Best Phuket Hotels from Chic Boutique Hotels to Luxe Beach Resorts

The best Phuket hotels include everything from boutique hotels in Phuket Old Town to luxury beach resorts overlooking the sea. Here’s where to stay on Phuket depending on the experience you want – whether you want breathtaking ocean views, you want to be within splashing distance of the sea or to lie by a stunning swimming pool, or you prefer to be close to atmospheric markets, delicious street food and restaurants specialising in southern Thai food.

Phuket is a fantastic place to kick off your Thailand trip. Thailand’s largest island, Phuket is blessed with a wide variety of beaches, towns, villages, and beach resorts, each with their own personality, which means you need to choose where to stay on Phuket carefully.

Then there’s Phuket’s Old Town, also called Phuket Town, the charming historic heart of the island’s capital, where you’ll find lively local markets, mouthwatering street food, atmospheric cafés, and traditional restaurants offering fantastic Southern Thai food, including Phuket cuisine that’s unique to the island.

Phuket Town also has a long history and rich culture, handsome pastel-painted heritage buildings, good shopping, and charming cafés and bars with character. While most visitors prefer to be by the beach and visit Phuket Town on a day trip or for dinner, even if you’re on a beach holiday Phuket Town warrants a stay of at least a night or two.

On our longest trip to the island, a month on Phuket researching Phuket cuisine and street food for Australia’s Delicious magazine, we sampled more than a dozen beach resorts and boutique hotels on Thailand’s sprawling southern island. Below you’ll find our picks of the best Phuket hotels, from luxury Phuket beach resorts to boutique hotels in Phuket Old Town.

Best Phuket Hotels from Boutique Hotels to Luxury Beach Resorts

Thailand’s biggest island, Phuket is 540kms sq in size, 21km wide and almost 48km in length, and it’s mountainous, so it’s not as if you can bounce from one side of the island to the other with ease and speed. You need to choose where to stay on Phuket very carefully.

Whether you’re looking for a Phuket beach resort with access from your accommodation directly to the sand or you’re satisfied lapping up the spectacular sea views from the side of a swimming pool, you’ll be very satisfied with resorts such as The Surin, which offer access to the sand from beachside cottages, and Anantara Phuket Layan, although you’ll need to choose your villa carefully.

Como Point Yamu, Paresa, Andara, and Kata Rocks, all have gorgeous pools and awe-inspiring ocean and island views, although they’re a short drive or sweaty walk to the beach. There are no views from the private pool villas and rooms at lovely Sala Phuket, but it’s an easy amble to one of Phuket’s cleanest beaches, and the bar, restaurant and pool offer prime sunset-viewing.

Just off the island on the mainland, most of the accommodation at Aleenta and Iniala Beach House in Baan Natai, is within splashing distance of the sea — you can hear the waves crashing against the shore from the comfort of your bed — and also offer sublime sunset views.

In Phuket Town, the markets, museums, temples, café, restaurants and bars are all a short stroll away from the charmingly restored Memory at On On and lovely Casa Blanca, both two of the best Phuket hotels in the Old Town.

Best Phuket Hotels from Luxury Beach Resorts to Boutique Hotels

These are our picks of the best Phuket hotels, from luxury beach resorts with sea views to boutique hotels in Phuket Town.

Phuket Beach Resorts By the Sea

The best beach resorts on Phuket island range from chic intimate boutique beach stays, such as Sala Phuket, to ultra luxurious clifftop villas overlooking the ocean, such as Trisara and Paresa.

Point Yamu by COMO

If your requirement as to where to stay in Phuket calls for a combination of fantastic food, views, style, and a stunning swimming pool, then Point Yamu by COMO is your hotel and one of the best Phuket hotels.

On Cape Yamu on Phuket’s east coast, overlooking Phang Nga Bay, Point Yamu by COMO is spread across a striking concrete shell and 27 pool villas skirting the main complex. Opened in April 2014, the resort boasts an endearingly playful design by Italian Paola Navone, inspired by Thai culture and Buddhism.

A whimsical lobby display features pagoda bells, kitschy garden statues and tin monk’s bowls filled with flowers, while traditional artisanal techniques abound, such as woven rattan, stencilled antique tiles, and wooden roof tiling on feature walls.

A highlight is the food, which was overseen by Australian chef Daniel Moran when we last stay – Italian-focused Mediterranean cuisine at La Sirena and a light take on Southern Thai food at Nahmyaa.

A 100-metre swimming pool with gob-smacking bay views makes up for the lack of beach access, and a COMO Shambhala Spa offers signature treatments.

An array of activities includes complimentary 15-minute transfers to Rang Yai Island, longtail boat rides to Naga Noi, and cruises to Ko Phi Phi, James Bond Island and the Similians. Book Point Yamu by COMO with our booking partner

Anantara Phuket Layan

Anantara Phuket Layan is easily another one of the best Phuket hotels. The resort is set on a secluded bay with a private sandy beach (rare in Thailand), on the mid-northwest coast.

The property has all the signature elements of the brand’s style, from airy pavilions for public spaces and quintessentially Thai-style tiled roofs to polished timber floors, silk soft-furnishings, and orchid-filled vases.

Here you have a choice of rooms and suites with Andaman Sea vistas or spacious villas without views but boasting private pools. We tried the latter and it was lovely, but I preferred to swim in the larger beachside pool so I’d probably opt for a room with a view if I stayed again.

The Thai food at the beautifully designed Dee Plee restaurant was outstanding, and the Spice Spoons cooking class and market tour were excellent. All day dining restaurant, Sala Layan, was also terrific.

The resorts offers a range of water sports, as well as Muay Thai kick boxing classes. Book Anantara Layan Phuket Resort with our booking partner

Sala Phuket

Slap-bang on beautiful Mai Khao Beach, Phuket’s longest and cleanest beach, which is protected as part of the north-western Sirinat National Park, lovely low-rise Sala Phuket is another one of the best Phuket hotels and one of the island’s most laidback resorts.

Thanks to a well-planned layout with the reception on one side of the resort, the alfresco restaurant, lounge bar and pool on the other, and private pool villas hidden behind high walls in between, the property feels very intimate and exclusive.

There are 79 stylish villas and suites, but it feels as if there’s half the amount. The sprawling lawns also allow sunbathers to spread out, so it’s only at meal times and when guests make a beeline for the lounge-beds to savour the sunset that you realise there are others staying.

The international and Thai dishes on the menu are all excellent – everything from quesadillas to Phuket specialty khanom jeen (room-temperature rice noodles, coconut curry, crispy vegetables, and condiments).

This is where to stay in Phuket if your priorities are privacy and tranquility – along with great food and a good beach. Book Sala Phuket with our booking partner

Trisara

Located on a headland on the mid northwest coast and set in lush tropical palm-filled gardens, luxurious Trisara is another one of the best Phuket hotels and easily one of Phuket’s most exclusive resorts – except on weekends, when things get busy when expats and locals linger over a sumptuous Sunday seafood-driven champagne brunch. We highly recommend it.

The lavish pool villas and residences, perched above the sea, are enormous, boasting spacious decks, serene infinity pools, and panoramic ocean vistas. While it’s tempting to enjoy sundowners from your villa, venture down to the bar by the beach for the fabulous cocktails.

The Thai food was fantastic and cooking class excellent. Service at the seaside restaurant was slow when we stayed and the food a tad disappointing the night we dined, but the lazy Sunday brunch and a private barbecue dinner on the deck of our villa another evening more than made up for it. The Surin

One of the most idyllically situated resorts on Phuket, set amidst coconut palm groves, The Surin spills down a luxuriant hillside, overlooking a drop-dead gorgeous beach and is easily another of the best Phuket hotels.

Designed by the late renowned architect Ed Tuttle, who rejuvenated the property a few years ago, the hard and heavy lines of the lofty main building that houses the reception and restaurants is at odds with the casual charm of the light-filled cottages that cascade down the slope and sit on the edge of the sand.

But once you’re settled into your spacious cottage, sprawled out on a towel on the sand, or sipping a sundowner as you watch the sun set from your own veranda, you won’t really care.

There’s a stunning palm-lined swimming pool, two restaurants serving terrific Thai food, and the beach is ideal for early morning or late afternoon walks and it even gets swell large enough for a surf, if not some boogie boarding.

While it’s not far to walk into the town of Surin, once you’re ensconced in your cottage you probably won’t want to leave, so take supplies and lots to read. Book The Surin Phuket with our booking partner

Paresa

Another one of the best Phuket hotels, Paresa is perched on a headland on Phuket’s mid-west coast, offering some of the most jaw-dropping sea views on the island, best appreciated from the infinity pool or deck of the restaurant.

The spacious comfortable villas and suites are quintessentially Thai-resort style with terraces and plunge pools. Not all offer the panoramic views of the public spaces, so confirm this is what you want ahead if it’s important.

The food is notable from both the Thai and European menus, each of which is offered in the same restaurant that’s loosely divided into two. But the culinary highlight for most is the special ‘Infinity Experience’ for couples, offered at low tables set over sun-beds that protrude into the infinity pool. Very romantic.

The menu features indulgent dishes such as Australian grain fed Angus beef with seared foie gras, but that’s the kind of experience it is. There’s an excellent cooking class with market walk that we also highly recommend.

If you want a dip in the sea the Paresa offers transfers to its beach club nearby at Kamala. Book Paresa Resort Phuket with our booking partner

Andara

The palm-fringed Olympic-sized swimming pool and Kamala Beach vistas would have been enough to entice me to Andara if I hadn’t have known about the enormous apartments with their brilliant kitchens and spacious entertaining areas.

Like a lot of the properties we chose to stay at for our research on Phuket cuisine, the Andara not only has a very good Thai restaurant that serves dishes from Phuket and Southern Thailand, they also offer cooking classes and in-villa dining prepared by their chefs.

We requested a combination of the experiences, so we got to observe two lovely local cooks prepare our dinner in our kitchen, and pick their brains about Phuket cuisine in the process. The suites and apartments are decorated with Jim Thompson silk textiles and fitted out with Bose sound systems and the like.

Of all the places where to stay in Phuket that we road-tested, this is the one we’d recommend for discerning travellers who want to settle in for a while, and it’s easily another one of the best Phuket hotels. Book Andara Resort with our booking partner

Kata Rocks

Exclusive Kata Rocks resort cascades down a steep hill on the rocky peninsula at the end of busy Kata Beach, ensuring complete privacy. The white, light-filled, two-storey villas and lofts boast a futuristic design inspired by the shape of the super yachts, which drop anchor in the bay.

The sleek minimalist interiors have state-of-the-art kitchens set up for entertaining, with every conceivable appliance and utensil you could think of – a passionate cook or chef would be very happy holidaying here. There’s a fully stocked fridge and wine cellar, and outside there is a huge lounge and private plunge pool.

But if you don’t want to stay in, you don’t have to go far. There’s a fine poolside restaurant and bar serving light, elegantly presented Thai and international food, which was overseen by Aussie chef Steve Baker when we last stayed.

The only downside is Kata Beach and the town itself. If you really want to dine outside the resort, you’re best making the trek into Phuket Old Town.

This is another one of the best Phuket hotels and this is where to stay in Phuket if your goal is ultimate relaxation and you don’t plan on straying far from your sleek accommodation. Book Kata Rocks with our booking partner

The Boathouse

Unlike Kata Rocks, which is on a hill on the edge of Kata, The Boathouse resort is slap-bang in the centre of Kata. Whether this is a good or bad thing really depends on what you think of Kata Beach and the town.

We’re not fans of the area, but The Boathouse is loaded with old-fashioned appeal, from the property itself, which in some ways felt like a generations-old, family-owned, holiday town hotel to the hands-on attention of the general manager who made an effort to make every guest feel at home.

The pick of the rooms is the Beachfront Suite, which is super-spacious and looks out onto the sand – so close that you can hear the sound of the waves crashing against the shore and smell the salty sea air.

Their daily Sunset Bubbles and Nibbles was a must when we last stayed, located in the library overlooking the ocean, and Saturday Night Jazz was popular with expats.

Dinner at the restaurant was hit and miss when it comes to the Western food, especially the steaks, which the chef insisted we try, so stick to the Thai cuisine and you’ll eat exceedingly well. Book The Boathouse with our booking partner

Best Phuket Boutique Hotels in Phuket Old Town

Phuket Old Town offers the gamut of lodgings, from opulent boutique hotels with suites with private pools like Hotel Verdigris to atmospheric lodgings in heritage buildings decorated with vintage furnishings, such as The Memory at On On. Phuket Old Town is around 45 minutes from Phuket International Airport. If your hotel offers an airport pick-up or well-priced airport shuttle, accept, otherwise book a Grab.

Hotel Verdigris

Hotel Verdigris is the most luxurious of Phuket Old Town boutique hotels. ‘Verdigris’ is the greenish-blue patina that forms on copper, bronze and brass due to oxidisation. That, along with an exotic portrait of the mysterious half Thai-Chinese and half French-Portuguese, Phuket-born Martinha Rozells, wife of Francis Light, founder of Penang, and mother of Adelaide planner William Light.

Rozells was the inspiration for the design of the hotel for the young Melbourne-educated owner, Pichakorn ‘Peach’ Phanichwong. For Phanichwong, Rozells and her heritage exemplifies the fusion of Chinese, Thai, Malay, and European cultures that formed Peranakan culture, which is Phuket’s culture. Those influences are evident in the style and decor of the hotel, especially in the vibrant Reading Room.

Distributed across the unusually-shaped three-storey hotel which incorporates a heritage building and modern structure, the 14 rooms feature big comfy beds with wrought-iron frames, wood wall panels and textured rugs in shades of bronze, chocolate and beige. Marble features heavily, from the double-basins in the spacious bathrooms to the triangular-shaped staircase, and terrace floor beside the ground-floor pool, which is surrounded by walls dripping with green ferns.

The stunning property is only a short stroll to the historic centre. The hotel also provides a complimentary shuttle around the Old Town and the concierge can help guests plan their days and make reservations. 154 Yaowarat Road, Talat Yai, Phuket Old Town. The Memory at On On

In the heart of Phuket Town and built in 1929, making it one of Phuket’s oldest hotels and one of the best Phuket hotels in the Old Town, The Memory at On On was a seedy backpacker joint that featured in the movie The Beach before re-opening after extensive renovations in late 2013.

While the hotel has retained some (refurbished) dorm-style accommodation and budget rooms, it’s the lovely mid-range rooms that you should book, painted in bold colours, furnished with vintage pieces, and boasting balconies and mini-bars.

Despite the remodelling of rooms, it’s still the public spaces, including pretty courtyards and quiet nooks that exude the most charm, and make this an atmospheric hotel that promises a memorable stay.

Decorated with retro furnishings and antiques and bric a brac, such as vintage wireless radios, the hotel is very photogenic (and frequently Instagrammed). Staff are friendly and can help with everything from eating tips to transport. Phuket Old Town. Book The Memory at On On Hotel with our booking partner

Casa Blanca

If food factors highly in your decision as to where to stay in Phuket then you want to be in Phuket Town and comfortable Casa Blanca boutique hotel is a fantastic choice, and easily another one of the best Phuket hotels in Phuket Old Town.

The effusive, well-travelled, English-speaking Thai owner of this rather grand whitewashed hotel, with a distinctly feminine sensibility – pastel colours, pretty furnishings, fresh flowers – is a passionate baker and foodie. She also owns a delightful café nearby selling the baked goods she makes herself.

Something of a foodie, she and her staff are keen to share restaurant tips, taking care to make reservations and mark spots on maps. They are equally eager to hear how you enjoyed their recommendations the next morning – as they scrawl breakfast suggestions on your map.

The whitewashed hotel is decorated in a fusion of styles, which exemplifies Phuket style, and has comfy rooms with balconies with ornate wrought iron railing. Skip the 25 square metre Superior rooms in favour of the more spacious Deluxe rooms or Family Suite.

The central location is handy for shopping, dining and drinking, with fantastic boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and bars close by. Phuket Old Town. Book Casa Blanca Boutique Hotel with our booking partner

Woo Gallery and Boutique Hotel

Located in a handsome heritage building more than a century old, Woo Gallery and Boutique Hotel is another of our picks of charming Phuket Old Town boutique hotels. The property stretches between Phangnga Road, where you’ll find the hotel entrance, and 78 Thalang Road, location of the original shophouse that was the home and business of a Hokkien-Chinese watchsmith and his wife, and is now the Moh Seng Historic House Museum.

In 2016, restoration began on the dilapidated building, then a fabric store, by the original owner’s grandson and his wife. Passionate preservationists of heritage architecture and antique collectors, they restored opened the house-museum to give visitors a glimpse into pre-WW2 domestic life during Phuket’s heyday.

There are pretty courtyards featuring Chinese tables and chairs and potted plants, stained glass windows, and antique floor tiles. Sideboards and cabinets that display antique ceramics and crystal glassware, including in the lovely cafe, where an outstanding breakfast is served.

The 12 spacious rooms are understated, blending modern and traditional, with polished floorboards and Chinese touches in the carved doors, brass handles and a ceramic bowl that stands in for a bathroom sink. Some rooms offer narrow balconies overlooking an interior courtyard and there are day-beds with cushions for relaxing with a good book in the cool of the air-conditioning after a sweaty stroll around the historic centre.

Like Georgetown, Penang, Phuket is home to some outstanding street art, with some of the most iconic murals right beside the hotel, including Thai artist Alex Face‘s Red Tortoise Mardi. The hotel is handy to the markets, shops and museums. 43/1 Phangna Rd, Talad Yai, Phuket Old Town. Book Woo Gallery & Boutique Hotel with our booking partner.

2ROOMS Boutique House

Located on Soi Romanee, the prettiest little street in Phuket’s historic centre, lined with colourful Sino-Portuguese shop-houses, 2Rooms Boutique House is another of the best Phuket Old Town boutique hotels. The airy double rooms with daybeds are set in twin pink heritage buildings with ornate facades and balconies overlooking the lively street.

The former red light district, once home to brothels, opium dens and gambling houses, Soi Romanee’s shophouses were abandoned and derelict until the slow process of restoration began just a couple of decades ago. Now, the popular destination is dotted with ice cream parlours, coffee shops, fashion boutiques, and fashionable bars. For some, the street’s gentrification has gone too far, turning it into a Peranakan Disneyland. You decide.

Busy with Instagrammers and shoppers by day, lively in the early evening with travellers taking in the illuminated buildings, post-dinner the street is peaceful, handy if you choose to make it your base for your Old Town explorations. The spacious double rooms are ideal if you’re settling in for a while, with coffee tables, writing desks, and tea sets.

No breakfast, but there are loads of places to eat nearby, and guests get daily ice cream vouchers to Torry’s, the ice cream parlour on the ground floor. 2Rooms Boutique House, 16 Soi Romanee, Phuket Old Town. Book 2Rooms Boutique House with our booking partner.

BAAN 125 Stay Phuket

The spacious light-filled studios at BAAN 125 Stay Phuket are located in an elegant, whitewashed shophouse and feature strikingly-designed bedrooms with comfy double beds, gorgeous sitting areas, small kitchenettes, and a terrace or balcony.

Themed around the four seasons, with striking ‘seasonal’ artwork setting each apart, the design of the studios are what we call ‘same same but different’ in Southeast Asia, with each boasting polished hardwood floors, black feature walls behind the beds, and black lacquered rattan sofas with plush velvet cushions.

The simple kitchenettes have an induction stovetop and cookware, in case you buy some beautiful fresh produce from the local market and want to make some of the dishes you learnt at the Blue Elephant Cooking School, and a microwave, which are handy for re-heating leftover street food.

The busy ground floor cafe sells outstanding coffee and scrumptious cakes, along with ceramics, handmade pottery, artwork, and cards. BAAN 125 Stay Phuket, 125 Thalang Road, Phuket Old Town. Book 2Rooms Boutique House with our booking partner.

Baan Suwantawe

On the edge of Phuket Old Town, near Limelight Mall (which has a supermarket) and hipster Indy Market, which has great street food, artsy gifts and souvenirs and live music, Baan Suwantawe is a great budget boutique option, with a swimming pool and urban resort vibe.

The standard rooms are functional with basic pine furniture and colouful batik throws enlivening an otherwise plain rooms. The deluxe double and twin rooms are bigger and a little better with balconies and views of Limelight Mall.

The studio with terraces and views of the pool and treetops are the pick of the lot, with a kitchenette with fridge and microwave. Baan Suwantawe Phuket, 1/10 Dibuk Road, Phuket Old Town. Book Baan Suwantawe with our booking partner.

Best Phuket Beach Resorts Just Off the Island

Still in Phuket province, a short drive from the bridge connecting Phuket island with the mainland, these beautiful beach resorts skirt stunning stretches of sand.

Aleenta

Just down the road from Iniala (below), sleek, low-rise, whitewashed Aleenta is one of our favourite boutique resorts in Thailand and easily one of the best Phuket hotels in Phuket province.

We first stayed here when we updated the DK Thailand guidebook many years ago and have checked in a few more times over the years, trying several different types of accommodation, from the Pool Villas to the two-bedroom Pool Residences (our pick of lodgings at Aleenta).

The resort is set on a picturesque part of Natai Beach and the infinity pool, lounge bar, and Beachfront Suites all take advantage of the spectacular ocean vistas. The Edge restaurant, ran by chef Alex Bitterling when we last stayed, is superb, serving creative, contemporary Thai-inspired cuisine.

Aleenta Phuket, like its sister property near Hua Hin, is an eco-friendly resort, supporting the Pure Blue Foundation focused on marine conservation and a turtle sanctuary. Book Aleenta Resort And Spa Phuket with our booking partner

Iniala Beach House

If money is no object when it comes to where to stay in Phuket province and you don’t necessarily need to be right on the island, then Iniala Beach House is easily one of the best Phuket hotels to check into.

The stunning luxury resort is located at Natai beach, Phang Nga, just over the bridge to the mainland and offers a one-of-a-kind experience. While it’s not on the island itself, the nearest airport, Phuket International, is a just a short drive away.

Opening with a bang in late 2013, Iniala Beach House consists of 10 idiosyncratically styled villas, each by a different designer and filled with Southeast Asian art. The property also has a gallery and dedicated art curator.

Iniala was a destination for gourmands when it first opened thanks to its restaurant Aziamendi, the first foreign outpost of Chef Eneko Atxa of Azurmendi near Bilbao. It served three sublime tasting menus, one an homage to the Basque restaurant, another inspired by Thai cuisine and local produce.

Iniala Beach House is expensive, however, it’s all-inclusive, including butler, driver, spa therapist, treatments, activities, picnics, barbecues, and meals.  Book Iniala Beach House with our booking partner

  1. Thanks, Padaek! Let us know if you need any Phuket tips. I just checked out your Laos-Australian blog – fantastic stuff! Will definitely spend more time there. Does your Mum make those wonderful herbaceous Laos sausages? Got a recipe? I’ll see if I can find one. Thanks for dropping by!

  2. Hi Lara, Thanks! Mum has made the Lao sausages before, although fish based recipes are her specialities; som pa, pa hang, larb pa. They live near the Murray River, which has plenty of carp. I’ve stumbled on a Lao sausage recipe online before. It’s a rather involved recipe but I look forward to making them one day.

  3. Hi Padaek – yes, we’ve got a Lao cookbook too. Terence did a couple of cooking classes on our last trip – he’s very good at making sticky rice :) We’ll need to get some sausage making lessons next time. Though it’s hard to buy sausage casings here in Siem Reap. Near the Murray River? Wonderful. Which town do you live in? We’re returning home to Australia next month for around 6 weeks.

  4. Thanks for this very informative article. On our last trip around Thailand we skipped Phuket, but we might go there next time. I saved this piece for looking at it when we go to Thailand the next time.

  5. A great list of Phuket resorts! On our last visit, we stayed at the Amanpuri, which is a lovely luxury property. We’d like to check out the new Point Yamu by Como, which you describe. And we’re impressed to hear that all profits from Inlala go to support charitable projects.

  6. Thanks for the kind words, Sunu. I can completely understand why you might want to skip Phuket – parts of the island are very unpleasant. But if you follow our accommodation tips and eating recommendations (do see our posts on Phuket Cuisine and Street Food) you should have a terrific time. We’ll be posting more stories on Phuket soon. Kerala is high on our list of travel priorities. We’ve intended to go for many years – we used to work with lots of Keralans in the UAE, but somehow haven’t made it there yet.

  7. Hi guys – we’re huge fans of Aman resorts – you’ll find a few reviews on the site here – however, the Amanpuri was sadly closed for renovations or maintenance apparently while we were there. We were right next door at The Surin and strolled past on a few times on that magic beach and it reminded me of those holiday towns on Cyprus and Crete where everything shuts down for the season. Don’t you love that beach? Yes, definitely try Point Yamu. The Iniala owner is doing some incredible things, motivated unfortunately by a tragic experience – the love of his life was killed in the Bali bombing and they had always intended to live a philanthropic life together :(

  8. Hi Lara, we’re based in Sydney but I grew up in Albury, and currently interstate. Lao food appears to be getting a lot of attention recently worldwide, Sydney included, with more eateries to choose from. This is great and I’m also happy to learn about other less familiar cuisines, including other SE Asian cuisines. Thanks both for sharing your immense knowledge. Really enjoy following your inspiring work.

  9. Ah, how interesting. And thanks for the kind words – much appreciated. Do you have a list of Laos restaurants in Sydney somewhere on your blog? And do you know of any Cambodian restaurants? I’d love to try one when we return. I’ll go and have a browse of your site again and see what I can find. Thanks!

  10. Hi Lara,

Quite a few Lao restaurants to choose from in Sydney, but I would highly recommend Lao Thai Luammit (https://www.zomato.com/sydney/lao-thai-luammit-fairfield) in Fairfield, near Cabramatta if you’re keen to travel there. Very good real deal Lao food from my opinion. There are other very good and very well priced Lao restaurants in the neighbourhood also. Lao City Thai in Haymarket and Papaya Grill Lao in Marrickville looks great also, although we’ve not yet been. I’m not familiar with Cambodian food and restaurants, although there’s probably a few to choose from in Cabramatta also, where I’m sure you’ll feel very comfortable to shop. Bon voyage.

  11. Ah, thank you, that’s wonderful! We’ll definitely try a couple of those. We used to go to Cabramatta to eat Vietnamese in the 1990s when we lived in Sydney. Haven’t been since, so will definitely be checking it out. Also keen to explore the other Western suburbs. I was born in Parramatta, had grandparents in Northmead and Blacktown, our family lived in Lidcombe-Auburn for a short time as child. Sounds like there are some real gems out there now when it comes to eating. Thanks again for dropping by!

  12. Very informative one. After reading this article definitely, I would like to go there. This is very useful when someone planning for a trip to Phuket.

  13. Thanks, Kiran! Do browse our other Phuket posts when planning your trip – or feel free to ask questions, as we’re always happy to help :)
