Luxury Escapes for Less – Book Champagne Packages on a Prosecco Budget

Luxury Escapes for less – who doesn’t love some affordable luxury? Now, thanks to our new partnership with Luxury Escapes you can book jaw-dropping deals on gorgeous resorts, villas, hotels, and small group luxury tours for less – along with exclusive packages created just for Grantourismo readers.

I first heard about Luxury Escapes from some lovely Australian clients who were here in Siem Reap last year. They were staying in premium rooms at the chic Shinta Mani resort on a Luxury Escapes package that included VIP extras such as cocktails, dinner and spa treatments, and they’d nabbed the lot for a bargain price.

It was a Champagne holiday on a Prosecco budget essentially, so I was thrilled when Luxury Escapes approached us to be a partner so we could offer you similar luxury escapes for less in some of our favourite places in the world.

All too often holiday packages don’t represent such a bargain when you do the maths, but Luxury Escapes deals are the real deal. They show you exactly how much the total package would have cost if you paid the full rack rate, they guarantee quality (they assure us they’ve tested the beds out!), and they also offer a 7-day no-questions-asked cancellation policy on some packages if you change your mind.

So why do these luxury escapes for less deals sound too good to be true sometimes? Because Luxury Escapes is a successful online travel agent focused on the luxury market they have buying power. This means they can buy a large number of luxury rooms for less than other agents might pay, especially during the low season, which is partly why there’s a time limit on deals.

So when we share a luxury escapes for less deal with you here on Grantourismo, you need to click through and snap it up while you can, as they don’t last long. Deals might only be posted for as little as six days – even less if they’re selling fast – but one thing that we especially love about the Luxury Escapes site is that it allows you to buy now and book your dates later.

Luxury Escapes not only has access to exclusive deals on packages that they’ve put together that you won’t see on other travel sites – but they’re also going to be creating some exclusive packages just for Grantourismo readers, which we’ll offer from time to time, both here and via our newsletter.

Click through to Luxury Escapes and browse the latest luxury for less offers or see our picks of current deals, below.  Note that all offers below are due to end in two days but there are lots more offers on the site, from a 5-night Bali luxury villa escape at M Gallery Collection’s Armaterra Nusa Dua from A$1,499 (valued at $3,853) and 5-8 night Koh Samui Private Pool Villa packages from $1,399 (valued at $4,218) to an 18-day luxury small-group China tour from $2,999 (value: $5,199) and a 5-star 9-day small-group Cuba tour from $3,999 (value: $5,850).

Note that prices are in A$ but you can easily change the currency at the top of the page. While Luxury Escapes began as an Australian travel company, its global and its fabulous offers are available to travellers around the globe.

Also note that we earn a small commission from any bookings that you make that supports the work we do here on the site, but you won’t pay any extra.

Luxury Escapes for Less – Our Picks of the Latest Luxe Packages Offers

There are some bargain luxury escapes for less on the Luxury Escapes site right now, but I’ve chosen just four to share here in two of our favourite destinations: sublime resorts and villas in sunny Central Vietnam and wonderful winter getaways in Australia.

The Anam Villas, Nha Trang, Vietnam

Nha Trang is one of our favourite Vietnam destinations with some of the country’s most stunning sandy beaches, plus a mouth-watering market and lively street food scene. As you can see from the pic above, The Anam Nha Trang is a breathtaking resort of two-storey villas with balconies and private pools overlooking a 300-metre white-sand private beach. The three-bedroom private pool villa sleep up to six people and this amazing package is valid for six, making it ideal for a family holiday, getaway with friends or special birthday trip. It includes daily breakfasts; two blissful 60-minutes massages per person at The Anam Spa; exclusive access to the Colonial Club Lounge, including all day snacks and drinks and daily afternoon tea; nightly sunset happy hour with unlimited free-flow drinks (beer, wine, spirits, select cocktails) and canapés; two dinners of Vietnamese classics at Lang Viet Restaurant; return airport transfers for up to six people; and complimentary kids club for children aged 12 and under. Having planned my own Vietnam culinary tours, this is an incredible deal, especially when split between six.
Price: valid for 6 people in a 3-bedroom private pool villa from $3,999 (valued at $15,218) for 5 nights, $4,999 (valued at $20,278) for 7 nights, and $6,999 (valued at $27,867) for 10 nights. Offer ends in two days.

Angsana Lang Co, Lang Co, Central Coast, Vietnam

Lang Co is Central Vietnam’s most stunning stretch of beach – set against a lush low-rise forested mountain, it’s long and wide, with soft creamy sand, and wraps around a bay of pristine waters. It reminds me of some of Australia’s most spectacular beaches, such as Blueys Beach, below. We got to tour the lovely Angsana Lang Co resort just before it opened in early 2013 when we were staying at its adjoining sister-property, the Banyan Tree, one of our favourite Central Vietnam resorts. While there are plenty things to do in the surrounding region – Hue is close by and Hoi An is a short drive away – this is the kind of place you go to when you want to relax and do absolutely nothing, so we recommend spending time in Hue and Hoi An before or after your beach stay. Talk about luxury for less! On this seven or ten-night package you get daily buffet breakfasts, two 3-course dinners, a 3-course lunch, nightly sunset cocktails, two 60-minute massages, return airport shuttle services, access to the kids club if you’re travelling with children, and a late 3pm checkout.
Price: 7 nights from $1,599 (valued at $4,656). Just two days left on this offer.

Chateau Elan at The Vintage, Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia

When we lived in Sydney, the glorious Hunter Valley with its gentle vineyard-covered hills and fragrant bushland was our closest food and wine region. When we needed a food and wine-focused getaway that’s where we escaped, returning to the city with a car boot loaded with cases of wine. The Hunter is one of Australia’s finest food and wine destinations, home to some of our most beloved wineries, such as Lakes Folly. Sigh. I also have a soft spot for the Hunter as my family have a long history in the region and some still live there. If we were in Australia, we’d grab this luxury escapes for less package in a heartbeat for a family reunion. This five-star Gourmet Hunter Valley Escape at Chateau Elan and The Vintage includes daily cooked breakfasts; welcome cocktails; a complimentary entrée when you dine on two or more courses; complimentary tastings of olive oils, vinegars, mayonnaises, dukkah, relishes, and tapenades at Pukara Estate and Hunter Valley Olive Co; savings on local gourmet experiences, such as 10% off purchases at Hunter Distillery; two $25 spa credits to use towards treatments of 60+ minutes; 25% off green fees at the hotel’s award-winning, 18-hole Greg Norman golf course; and guaranteed late checkout. Stay longer and there are more perks, including upgrades to rooms with views.
Price: 2 nights from $379 per room (valued at $980). Offer ends in 2 days.

Blueys Retreat, Blueys Beach, NSW, Australia

Blueys Beach is a magic spot with a magnificent stretch of sand on the mid-north New South Wales coast and it’s one of our favourite places in Australia. My family used to live just inland on the wonderful Wallis Lake and we’d go swimming at Blueys when we visited for holidays. (One of my big regrets in life is not buying a piece of land there when I had the chance for $17,000! I know!) Set in natural bushland and tropical gardens, these beautiful one-, two- and three-bedroom self-contained two-storey holiday houses have impressive kitchens and big timber verandas with tables and chairs that are fab for entertaining. Blueys Retreat is right by the beach but the Retreat has its own gorgeous swimming pool. This package doesn’t include all the extras of our other luxury escapes for less offers – only upgrades and complimentary tennis gear for the on-site tennis court – but it’s still an absolute steal at this price.
Price: 3-5 nights from $399 (valued at $660). Just 2 days to take advantage of this!

Click through to find lots more luxe packages on the Luxury Escapes website and check in with us regularly for new luxury deals and exclusive packages for Grantourismo readers.

Have you used Luxury Escapes before? Are you the kind of spontaneous booker who likes to take advantage of these sort of luxury for less package deals? Or do you prefer to wait and sit down and book your travel when you’re ready to plan it, no matter what it costs?

If you’re still looking for food inspo for Chris If you’re still looking for food inspo for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day meals, my smoked salmon ‘carpaccio’ recipe is one of dozens of recipes in this compilation of our best Christmas recipes (link below).

The Christmas recipe compilation includes collections of our best Christmas breakfast recipes, best Christmas brunch recipes, best Christmas starter recipes, best Christmas cocktails, best Christmas dessert recipes, and homemade edible Christmas gifts and more.

My smoked salmon carpaccio recipe makes an easy elegant appetiser that’s made in minutes. If you’re having guests over, you can make the dish ahead by assembling the salmon, capers and pickled onions, and refrigerate it, then pour on the dressing just before serving.

Provide toasted baguette slices and bowls of additional capers, pickles and dressing, so guests can customise their carpaccio. And open the bubbly!

If you haven’t visited our site in a while, I sh If you haven’t visited our site in a while, I shared a collection of recipes for homemade edible Christmas gifts — for condiments, hot sauces, chilli oils, a whole array of pickles, spice blends, chilli salt, furakake seasoning, and spicy snacks, such as our Cambodian and Vietnamese roasted peanuts.

I love giving homemade edibles as gifts as much as I love receiving them. Who wouldn’t appreciate jars filled with their favourite chilli oils, hot sauces, piquant pickles, and spicy peanuts that loved-ones have taken the time to make?

Aside from the gesture and affordability of gifting homemade edibles, you’re minimising waste. You can use recycled jars or if buying new mason jars or clip-top Kilner jars, you know they’ll get repurposed.

No need for wrapping, just attach some Christmas baubles or tinsel to the lid. I used squares of Cambodian kramas (cotton scarves), which can be repurposed as napkins or drink coasters, and tied a ribbon or two around the lids, and attached last year’s Christmas tree decorations to some.

You’ll find the recipes here: https://grantourismotravels.com/homemade-edible-christmas-gifts/ (link in bio if you’re seeing this on IG)

This crab omelette is a decadent eggs dish that’ This crab omelette is a decadent eggs dish that’s perfect if you’re just back from the fish markets armed with luxurious fresh crab meat. It’s a little sweet, a little spicy, and very, very moreish.

Our crab omelette recipe was one of our 22 most popular egg recipes of 2022 on our website Grantourismo and it’s no surprise. It’s appeared more times than any other egg recipes on our annual round-ups of most popular recipes since Terence launched Weekend Eggs when we launched Grantourismo in 2010.

If you’re an eggs lover, do check out the recipe collection. It includes egg recipes from right around the world, from recipes for classic kopitiam eggs from Singapore and Malaysia and egg curries from India and Myanmar to all kinds of egg recipes from Thailand, Japan, Korea, China, Mexico, USA, Australia, UK, and Ireland.

And do browse our Weekend Eggs archives for further eggspiration (sorry). We have hundreds of egg recipes from the 13 year-old series of recipes for quintessential egg dishes from around the world, which we started on our 2010 year-long global grand tour focused on slow, local and experiential travel.

We’re hoping 2023 will be the year we can finally publish the Weekend Eggs cookbook we’ve talked about for years based on that series. After we can find a publisher for the Cambodia cookbook of course... :(

I’m late to share this, but a few days ago Angko I’m late to share this, but a few days ago Angkor Archaeological Park, home to stupendous Angkor Wat, pictured, celebrated 30 years of its UNESCO World Heritage listing.

That’s as good an excuse as any to put this magnificent, sprawling archaeological site on your travel list this year.

While riverside Siem Reap, your base for exploring Angkor is bustling once more, there are still nowhere near the visitors of the last busy high season months of December-January 2018-2019 when there were 290,000 visitors.

Last month there were just 55,000 visitors and December feels a little quieter. A tour guide friend said there were about 150 people at Angkor Wat for sunrise a few days ago.

If you’re looking for tips to visiting Angkor, Siem Reap and Cambodia, just ask us a question in the comments below or check Grantourismo as we’ve got loads of info on our site. Click through to the link in the bio and explore our Cambodia guide or search for ‘Angkor’.

And please do let us know if you’re coming to Siem Reap. We’d love to see you here x

Our soy ginger chicken recipe will make you sticky Our soy ginger chicken recipe will make you sticky, flavourful and succulent chicken thighs that are fantastic with steamed rice, Chinese greens or a salad, such as a Southeast Asian slaw.

The chicken can be marinated for up to 24 hours before cooking, which ensures it’s packed with flavour, then it can be cooked on a barbecue or in a pan.

Terence’s soy ginger chicken recipe is one of our favourite recipes for a quick and easy meal. I love the sound of the sizzling thighs in the pan, and the warming aromas wafting through the apartment.

It’s amazing how such flavourful juicy chicken thighs come from such a quick and easy recipe.

Who can guess the ingredients and what we’re mak Who can guess the ingredients and what we’re making with my market haul from Psar Samaki in Siem Reap — all for a whopping 10,000 riel (US$2.50)?!

Birds-eye chillies thrown in for free! They were on my list but the seller I spent most at (5,000 riel!) scooped up a handful and slipped them into my bag. She was my last stop and knew what I was making.

My Khmer is poor, even after all our years in Cambodia, as I don’t learn languages with the ease I did in my 20s, plus I’m mentally exhausted after researching and writing all day. I have a better vocabulary of Old and Middle Khmer than modern Khmer from studying the ancient inscriptions for the Cambodian culinary history component of our cookbook I’m writing.

So when one seller totalled my purchases I thought she said 5,000 riel but she handed back 4,500 riel! The sum total of two huge bunches of herbs and kaffir lime leaves was 500 riel.

Tip: if visiting Siem Reap, use Khmer riel for local shopping. We’ve mainly used riel since the pandemic started— rarely use US$ now as market sellers quote prices in riels, as do local shops and bakeries, and I tip tuk tuk drivers in riels. I find prices quoted in riels are lower.

Psar Samaki is cheaper than Psar Leu, which is cheaper than Psar Chas, as it’s a wholesale market, which means the produce is fresher. I see veggies arriving, piled high in the back of vehicles, with dirt still on them — as I did on this trip.

The scent of a mountain of incredibly aromatic pineapples offloaded from the back of a dusty ute was so heady they smelt like they’d just been cut. More exotic European style veggies arrive by big trucks in boxes labelled in Vietnamese (from Dalat) and Mandarin (from China), such as beautiful snow-white cauliflower I spotted.

Note: the freshest produce is sold on the dirt road at the back of the market.

My Vietnamese-ish meatballs and rice noodles recip My Vietnamese-ish meatballs and rice noodles recipe makes tender meatballs doused in a delightfully tangy-sweet sauce, sprinkled with crispy fried shallots, with carrot-daikon, crunchy cucumber and fragrant herbs.

The dish is inspired by bún chả, a Hanoi specialty, but it’s not bún chả. No matter what Google or food bloggers tell you. Names are important, especially when cooking and writing about cuisines not our own.

This is an authentic bún chả recipe: https://grantourismotravels.com/vietnamese-bun-cha-recipe/ You’ll need to get the outdoor BBQ/grill going to do proper smoky bún chả meat patties (not meatballs).

My meatball noodle bowl is perhaps more closely related to dishes such as a Central Vietnam cousin bún thịt nướng (pork skewers on rice noodles in a bowl) and a Southern relation bún bò Nam Bộ (beef atop rice noodles, sprinkled with fried shallots (Nam Bộ=Southern Vietnam) though neither include meatballs.

Xíu mại= meatballs although they’re different in flavour to mine, which taste more like bún chả patties. Xíu mại remind me of Southern Italian meatballs in tomato sauce.

In Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, home to millions of Khmer, there’s bánh tằm xíu mại. Bánh tằm=silk worm noodles. They’re topped with meatballs, cucumber, daikon, carrot, fresh herbs, crispy fried onions. Difference: cold noodles doused in a sauce of coconut cream and fish sauce.

Remove the meatballs, add chopped fried spring rolls and it’s Cambodia’s banh sung, which is a rice noodle salad similar to Vietnam’s bún chả giò :)
