Best travel and food lenses for Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras range from the Sony E 10–18 mm F4 OSS, a super wide-angle zoom lens perfect for capturing vast landscapes and restaurant interiors to the Sony SEL35F18 35mm f/1.8 Prime Fixed Lens, which is fab for street photography.

As a pro food and travel photographer, I frequently get asked for advice on the best cameras and lenses for food and travel photography. We’ve had a number of friends, clients and Grantourismo readers heading to Southeast Asia with Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras and kit lenses who have asked me for recommendations for the best travel and food lenses for Sony APS-C Mirrorless Cameras.

Just as I did for the Fujifilm range, I thought I’d call out the best Sony lenses for travel and food photography from their lineup. Generally called the A6000 Series, the Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lenses have a good reputation and Sony has a great lens roadmap for the future. Great image quality in a small package is what most Sony camera owners tell me is the main attraction.

But moving on from the Sony APS-C mirrorless camera and lens kit, lenses such as the 18-135mm zoom lens are a great way to improve your food and travel photography. Here are my recommendations for the best travel and food lenses for Sony APS-C Mirrorless Cameras.

Best Travel and Food Lenses for Sony APS-C Mirrorless Cameras

Best Wide-Angle Sony Lenses for Food and Travel Photography

Sony E 10–18 mm F4 OSS

The Sony E 10–18 mm F4 OSS is a super wide-angle zoom lens and it’s easily one of the best travel and food lenses for Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras and is perfect for capturing vast landscapes, as well as restaurant interiors. While pro photographers always want F2.8 lenses (offering a shallower depth of field), this is not as relevant with wide angle photography, such as the photo above in Outback Australia, which was shot at 16mm wide at F6.3 . While even the big dogs Nikon and Canon don’t have in-built optical stabilisation in their wide-angle offerings, this one does. This lens will give you steadier shots when you’re not using your tripod at dawn or dusk or in a dimly lit restaurant.

Best Mid-Range Lens of Sony Lenses for Food and Travel Photography

Sony SEL1670Z Vario-Tessar T E 16-70mm F4 ZA OSS

The mid-range lenses are probably where Sony has the weakest offerings at the inexpensive end of the market, but this Sony SEL1670Z Vario-Tessar T E 16-70mm F4 ZA OSS lens made in conjunction with lens legends Zeiss is a winner and is arguably one of the best travel and food lenses for Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras. However, there are reviews that cite that the lens has quality control issues, which means that it’s probably one to test in a camera shop before purchasing. Particularly as it’s the lens that will be on your camera most of the time when you’re travelling. An alternative is the Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS, with a much longer focal length, or the Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS Standard Zoom Lens below.

Best Odd Range Lens of Sony Lenses for Travel and Food Photography

Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS Standard Zoom Lens

I call this the odd range as I usually stay away from lenses with such a long stretch of focal length, but it turns out that this Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS Standard Zoom lens is pretty good all through the focal lengths. Perhaps at the 24mm it’s a little soft but, overall, if you don’t get the 16-70mm listed above, this will be your travel go-to lens and will rarely leave your camera when you’re travelling, making it another of the best travel and food lenses for Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras.

Best Long-Range Lens of Sony Lenses for Travel and Food Photography

Sony FE 70-300mm SEL70300G F4.5-5.6 G OSS Lens

Probably the weakest area of the market for Sony’s range of e-mount lenses. This Sony FE 70-300mm SEL70300G F4.5-5.6 G OSS lens, with a 4.5-5.6 aperture, will require a bright sunny day for wildlife photography and you’re not going to get as good focus separation from your subject to the background. However, if you want to do some surfing photography or race car photography, this is a good lens to have in your kit and arguably another of the best travel and food lenses for Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras.

Best Macro Lens of Sony Lenses for Travel and Food Photography

Sony SEL90M28G FE 90mm f/2.8-22 Macro G OSS

This is quite a beast of a lens and is made for Sony’s full frame cameras but works well with A6000 series APS-C cameras. While it is expensive, it’s a good investment if you’re thinking of moving up to Sony’s full frame camera options, particularly if you’re into shooting portrait photography when you travel. It’s also a great food lens that can focus in less than one foot distance, making it another of the best travel and food lenses for Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras. A less expensive option, and one more suited to food photography than capturing butterflies, is the Sony Alpha E-Mount FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro Lens which comes in at half the price and easily one of the best lenses for close-ups of dishes.

Best Walk Around Lens of Sony Lenses for Food and Travel Photography

Sony SEL35F18 35mm f/1.8 Prime Fixed Lens

For street photography, discretion is your best friend. While Sony have a couple of ‘pancake’ lenses, this Sony SEL35F18 35mm f/1.8 Prime Fixed Lens is the best focal length for shooting action on the streets, easily making it one of the best travel and food lenses for Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras. Lovely bokeh, sharp from F2.0, and if I had to choose one compact lens to travel with this would be it.

If you have one of the Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras I’d love to hear how you find it and which lenses you think are the best travel and food lenses for Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras in the comments below.
