Dan Dyer at the Gallery at the Continental Club, Austin
At the end of that interview Dan invited us to his gig at the Gallery, upstairs at the Continental Club, where he has a fun Monday night residency. Keen to see Dan do his thing, we went along and we had a blast.
While the first set consistently primarily of Dan and his tight crew playing his soulful tunes, the second set was something else… well, let’s just say it turned into a half hour jam after the first song. Unfortunately we can’t tell you what they were singing about, but let’s just say that they declared Monday night a good night for a certain, um, sex act…
What I loved about the gig was the sense of camaraderie, as John Kunz, owner of Waterloo Records alluded to when we interviewed him. Other musicians dropped in to jam after other gigs around town, other singers got up on stage to take on backing vocal duties and the vibe was on of positive energy and simply playing for the love of music.
Despite the rubbish lighting for photography, I was able to pop off a few frames that capture the feel of the gig. I don’t think we need to tell you it was a fun night — the photos speak for themselves!
